Selecting the right car towel:  3 Criteria

Microfiber is a fabric that has significantly changed the automotive care industry. Microfiber is a material that is more durable, more absorbent, and softer than the towels that replaces by a factor of at least three. Cotton used to be the standard fabric for car care. We used it on windows, we used it on paint, we used it on leather, we used it on plastic, and we used it to shampoo carpets. But in the 1980s the invention of microfiber significantly changed the janitorial business. This new fiber absorbs double the amount of water, and had triple the life, and it soon began to replace polyester and cotton in towels and mops in janitor's closets all over the world.

But wasn't until the 2000s that microfiber began to make the same difference in the automotive business. It's true that you can certainly buy a large pile of cotton rags and perform a lot of cleaning for very little money. When it comes time to clean those towels and prepare them for their next use, though, the savings are all gone in the form of electricity, time and effort.

Automotive towels tend to take a lot of abuse, so it's critical that you pay a little extra for microfiber towels to get maximum durability. Typically you get 3 to 5 times the life from a microfiber towel when compared with natural fiber towels. These towels can be used repeatedly and not break down or shed or rip. This is made a significant difference among car drying towels. The previous material of choice was a synthetic chamois. But the new microfiber material has shown to be just as absorbent assistance that chamois, but so much more durable and requiring less frequent replacement.

There are many sensitive areas on your car that mandate you choose the softest towel available. These would include the glass and painted surfaces of your car. Waxing and polishing is a particularly delicate process if you have a dark shade of paint. Natural fiber towels tend to leave very fine scratches in your paint surface which, over time, begin to dull the reflection of your paint. With microfiber, you know that you are using a towel that is the softest possible to remove the polish and wax from your car as part of your normal routine.
